3 Ways to Style a Blazer
Hi Babes,
I’m back with another “how to” blog post. This time, I’m showing you 3 ways to style a blazer. Blazers are one of my favorite fashion pieces and I always look for a good one every season.
Style 1: The Layering Piece
Perhaps the easiest way to style a blazer, is to use it as intended; layer it. Styling it over your tops and dresses. This is a fool proof method and gives you the added benefit of warmth. I love layering it unsuspected pieces like bathing suits when in transferring them to day way as shown below in the image on the left.
Style 2: The Top
The second way to style a blazer, is to treat it like a top. When styling like this, you can tuck your blazer into a skirt or pants and add a belt for a bit more security. You can also wear the blazer over a skirt or pants and add a belt to the waist to hold it in place. This is my signature style, and it’s super easy to recreate. One note about tucking your blazer into your skirt is that you want to make sure you’re pairing your heavier fall and winter blazers with a skirt that has enough volume to accommodate them.
Style 3: The Dress
The third way to style a blazer is to treat it like a dress. This is probably the most streamlined way to style a blazer. You can simply button your blazer or add a belt to the waist to create a bit of shape. I do advice having shorts underneath for a bit of security in case the wind blows. If the blazer has a deep V that you’re uncomfortable with, you can wear a tank top underneath.
Pro Tips: Now you know I can’t leave you without some tips.
Tip 1
When buying blazers go a size or 2 up for styling versatility. This is particularly important if you’re planning to style your blazer as a dress, as it will need to be long enough to function in that way. For my taller babes, I recommend shopping in the men’s section to find blazers that will be long enough.
Tip 2
One of the questions that came up when i posted this on Instagram was “But what about us short women?” I hear you, and I know that the first tip might not necessarily apply to petite women but this one does. It seems very instinctive, but I don’t always see women doing it. CUFF YOUR SLEEVES. Ideally, you will want to get it tailored, but cuffing your sleeves works well enough. We tend to get swallowed in our clothes so minor styling adjustments like cuffing your sleeves, and adding a belt (I belt nearly everything) go a long way in giving you a clean look.
